Question:
Can qurbani meat be used for food as a fundraiser for the maintenance of a masjid?
Answer:
Praises are to Allah, and peace be upon prophet Muhammed.
For the Udhiya, that is the animal sacirificed on eid-ul-adha,
it is recommended to give 1/3 to poor, 1/3 to friends and family,
and 1/3 for oneself. This however is recommended, but not strictly
obligatory, and the meat could be divided in a different way.
It is not appropriate for anyone to dissuade the effort to
raise funds for maintaining the masajid, that call people to
the ilm and bringing them to the way of Allah. Hopefully it
would be a good way to raise more money for the masajid,
a really good cause. This, keeping in mind, not going away
from the sunnah (traditions) of prophet Muhammed as explained to
us by our noble ulema.
If one does give meat for this purpose, thay are not doing
something forbidden. Hopefully this would be a means of
bringing more people to the masajid, and closer to the teachings
of prophet Muhammed, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.
And Allah knows.
